- Rewards and realities of being a health information educator
- What the future holds for academic pathways and professional development
This will be a relaxed, conversational panel with honest insights and experiences, shared with fellow educators and stakeholders who care deeply about our profession.
Coding, Health Informatics, and Cybersecurity
On Oct. 12, five workshops will be offered on a variety of important issues for HI professionals:
- Privacy and Security Institute
- AI Prompting & Practical Tools for the Lifelong HI Learner
- Documentation, Denials and Reimbursement for Outpatient Services: Don’t Get Lost in the Labyrinth
- Enhancing Inpatient CDI Outcomes: Best Practices in Documentation and Coding
- Health Informatics Foundations: A Prep Course for AHIMA's New Health Informatics Microcredential
After a long hiatus, the Privacy and Security Institute will make its highly anticipated return, and it’s better than ever. Known for its compelling topics and expert speakers, this member-favorite is relaunching with an immersive format featuring real-world case scenarios and tabletop group applications.
Join privacy and cybersecurity leaders Danika Brinda, PhD, RHIA, CHPS, HCISPP; Wes Morris, CHISL, CHPS, CIPM, CC; and Robyn Stambaugh, MS, RHIA, CHPS, as they lead attendees through a hands-on exploration of incident response strategies and how they align with broader cybersecurity frameworks. You’ll also dig into the HIPAA Right to Access Rule, uncover best practices for compliance, and walk away equipped to tackle today’s privacy challenges head-on.
The “AI Prompting & Practical Tools for the Lifelong HI Learner” workshop directly addresses governance and compliance, practical applications, professional development, and hands-on demonstrations. This BYOL (Bring Your Own Laptop) workshop combines the thrill of discovery with rock-solid professional foundations, focusing on both personal and professional development to create that irresistible "hunger for more" that transforms attendees into workplace AI champions.
Coding and clinical documentation improvement (CDI) professionals, get ready for not one, but two powerful sessions designed to improve accuracy, reduce denials, and drive better financial outcomes.
Start your morning with “Documentation, Denials, and Reimbursement for Outpatient Services: Don’t Get Lost in the Labyrinth,” led by HCPro’s Deanne Wilk and Shannon McCall. With outpatient services now representing over 60 percent of billed claims, this session will zero in on the direct connection between documentation and revenue capture. Through interactive examples and strategy-driven discussion, you’ll sharpen your ability to spot gaps, strengthen documentation, and minimize costly denials.
In the afternoon, Dr. Tarman Aziz, CEO of CDIQ Consulting, will lead “Enhancing CDI Outcomes: Best Practices in Documentation and Coding,” a laser-focused workshop on five high-risk inpatient conditions: sepsis, acute kidney injury (AKI), end-stage renal disease (ESRD), congestive health failure (CHF), and malnutrition. This hands-on session includes case-based learning and breakout activities to help you master ICD-10 coding nuances, collaborate across clinical and revenue teams, and understand how artificial intelligence (AI) is shaping documentation workflows.
And for those eager to step into the fast-growing world of health informatics, AHIMA is offering exclusive early access to the brand-new AHIMA Health Informatics Microcredential with the first official prep course launching live at AHIMA25! Join AHIMA Education Directors Trayanna Whiting and Rana Abuzir for Health Informatics Foundations, a dynamic workshop that covers everything from data management and analytics to privacy, security, and project leadership. This session is designed for professionals ready to lead in today’s data-driven healthcare landscape and help shape the future of health information.
This is your moment to sharpen your skills, learn from industry leaders, and connect with a community that shares your passion for driving better health through trusted information. Whether you're returning to old favorites or exploring new frontiers, the AHIMA25 pre-conference workshops are where it all begins. Pre-conference workshops are available to AHIMA25 attendees only.
