AHIMA released the following statement about Health Information Professionals (HIP) Week:
With many health information management (HIM) professionals focused on work involving COVID-19, AHIMA has made the difficult decision to postpone HIP Week, which was scheduled for March 22-28.
While we are postponing the celebration, we also want to take a moment for recognition. This pandemic highlights the importance of HIM professionals’ commitment to the importance of trusted information and dedication to the public’s health and healthcare. Health data is a vital element of healthcare, including efforts to curb the COVID-19 pandemic. The work of HIM professionals allows medical providers to focus on patient care. We recognize these vital contributions, even during this challenging period.
We will reschedule HIP Week and announce a date later in 2020 after we’ve come through this difficult period and can celebrate, together.
