  1. The FAQ states’, “Code Z20.828, Contact with and (suspected) exposure to other viral communicable diseases, should be used if a patient has a known or suspected exposure to COVID-19, is exhibiting signs/symptoms associated with COVID-19, and the test results are negative, inconclusive, or unknown.” My question is, do all three of these requirements need to be met? What codes do we assign if a patient definitely has a known or suspected exposure to COVID-19, is NOT exhibiting signs/symptoms associated with COVID-19, and the test results are negative, inconclusive, or unknown? Can we still assign Z20.828 for COVID-19 exposure? The physician does not state ruled out.
