Health Data, Workforce Development, From AHIMA

Shaping the Future of Health Information Together

When I stepped into my role at AHIMA one year ago, I knew the incredible expertise, passion, and resilience of our members. I have experienced it firsthand as a proud member for nearly 30 years. But over the past year, seeing that dedication in action from this vantage point has been even more inspiring.

Health information professionals are at the center of some of the most exciting and challenging changes in healthcare today. We’re helping our organizations harness artificial intelligence (AI) responsibly, strengthening privacy and security practices, exploring new opportunities in interoperability, and ensuring our workforce has the skills needed for emerging roles. At AHIMA, we’re committed to giving you the tools, education, and credentials to not only keep pace but to lead.

This year, we’ve made important strides. We’re laying the groundwork to launch new and enhanced credentials and microcredentials, expanding opportunities for hands-on learning, and developing timely resources to help you navigate a rapidly changing healthcare landscape. The conversations we’re having now on AI, interoperability, cybersecurity, coding and revenue cycle, and workforce development are setting the stage for the future of our profession.

That’s why I’m especially excited for AHIMA25 in Minneapolis, MN, October 12–14, 2025. We have an outstanding lineup planned, starting with robust preconference workshops including the Privacy and Security Institute, AI Prompting & Practical Tools for the Lifelong HI Learner, Enhancing Inpatient CDI Outcomes, Outpatient Documentation, Denials and Reimbursement, and the Health Informatics Foundations course, which is also a prep for our newest microcredential.

The AHIMA25 Career Advancement track offers you opportunities to take your next professional step, including sessions on leadership, networking, and practical tips to stand out in a competitive job market.

We’re bringing back the Career Center in the exhibit hall complete with a professional headshot station, LinkedIn profile reviews, mock interviews, and chances to connect with potential employers. For those in coding and revenue cycle, our Coding track is packed with deep-dive sessions on the latest coding updates, case studies, and strategies to increase accuracy and efficiency.

Every program we launch, every credential we offer, and every resource we create is designed with one goal in mind: to empower you to lead healthcare through trusted information. I am grateful to be on this journey with you and excited for what is ahead.

Let’s keep shaping the future of health information together.
