OCR Announces Noonan as Acting Deputy Director for Health Information Privacy

Timothy Noonan was installed as the acting deputy director for health information privacy (HIP) for the US Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS’) Office for Civil rights (OCR) on January 29. Noonan replaces Iliana Peters, who is now working in the private sector, in this role.

Noonan has worked for the OCR for over four years in roles including OCR’s southeast regional manager and as the acting associate deputy director for regional operations and the acting director for Centralized Case Management Operations in OCR’s headquarters, OCR spokesperson Lou Burton told Health IT Security.

As other media outlets noted, this is the second time in four months that HHS has named a new official to oversee health privacy and HIPAA enforcement. Peters was named OCR’s acting deputy director when Deven McGraw left the agency last year.
