AHIMA Working on Second IG Readiness Survey
The American Health Information Management Association recently completed a key part of the process for producing a new white paper on the state of information governance readiness in the health information management (HIM) profession.
AHIMA, in conjunction with Cohasset Associates, with underwriting by Iron Mountain and Nuance, is wrapping up its second survey on information governance. This is the second survey AHIMA has done with its partners on the state of information governance in healthcare. The results of the first survey were released in a white paper in June of 2014.
The most recent survey focused on learning more about the current roles, skills, and developmental needs of those currently engaged with IG activities in their organizations, according to Lydia Washington, MS, RHIA, CPHIMS, senior director of practice excellence at AHIMA. The results of the survey will be released in a white paper, which will be distributed in July. Washington said the results will hopefully give the profession a better picture of the challenges, barriers, and strengths of those working in information governance, and will enable AHIMA to help meet the needs of professionals engaged in information governance.
“AHIMA aims to be the authoritative resource on information governance in healthcare, and this survey and white paper will provide new data and shed light on what skills and backgrounds are important for effective information governance,” Washington says. “AHIMA is currently working on a model to help health care organizations assess their IG maturity and having a deep understanding of the background and skills of the individuals who help make this happen in organizations is necessary to advance the development of that model and help organizations achieve IG maturity.”
The survey closed on April 16.
