VIDEO: Behind the Scenes—Journal of AHIMA’s Addendum Page
Chris Dimick, editor-in-chief of the Journal of AHIMA, explains the editorial decisions behind the Journal’s award-winning “Addendum” page.
The Addendum page recently won a bronze award from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE). Dimick accepted the honor on behalf of the Journal of AHIMA team at the ASBPE Awards Dinner this summer. The national award was issued for best Humorous/Fun Department of the Year, specifically for the Journal’s June and August 2012 issues.
Dimick discusses the editorial and design staff’s playful yet substantive take on health information topics in Addendum. For example, the June 2012 issue’s Addendum featured fun quotes collected at the 2012 AHIMA ICD-10 Summit. The August 2012 issue focused on the industry’s transition to ICD-10-CM/PCS by featuring cartoon illustrations of unexpected ICD-10 codes.
Dimick also talks about how he hopes readers will respond to Addendum, and why he thinks it appealed to ASBPE judges this year.
