This year the AHIMA Foundation is taking Silent Auction bidding to the next level by introducing a mobile bidding app. Gone are the days of writing your bid on a sheet and continuously having to check back to ensure a win. New this year, participants in the auction will download the Silent Auction Handbid App, which allows one to place bids, make purchases, place maximum bids, scroll through categories, and check out items.
To bid, follow these steps:
- Download the Handbid app from the Google Play or iTunes app store
- Create an account with your name, email address, and cell phone number
- Wait for a verification code from Handbid
- A list of auctions will appear; select “AHIMA Silent Auction” and bid away
A unique feature of the app is that it will send you push notifications if someone exceeds your maximum bid, allowing you to raise your limit. Also, the app allows anyone to bid on items, even those not attending convention.
The AHIMA Foundation Silent Auction is a fun way to contribute to the AHIMA Foundation while engaging in a friendly bidding competition on many desirable items. All of the funds raised at the Silent Auction go directly to the AHIMA Foundation’s program for outstanding health information management (HIM) and health IT students, and funds scholarships at the associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels.
The AHIMA Foundation is celebrating over 25 years and more than $1 million in donations from AHIMA members investing in the education of the profession. The 2016 auction and booth raised more than $28,000 for AHIMA Foundation programs, and the foundation awarded 56 Student Merit Scholarships to outstanding undergraduate and graduate HIM students.
