JAHIMA Website Wins ASBPE Award for HIPAA Slideshow
The Journal of AHIMA has received an award from the American Society of Business Publication Editors (ASBPE) as part of its 2017 Azbee Awards of Excellence.
The magazine’s website won the Silver Award for Best Photo Gallery/Slide Show in the Upper Midwest Region for “Making HIPAA Work for You: Discussing Record Access (and More) for Consumers.”
This consumer-facing slide show, created by JAHIMA Associate Editor Mary Butler, aimed to clear up confusion regarding the more patient-centric aspects of HIPAA’s Privacy and Security Rules.
Despite the fact that the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) has been the law of the land for 20 years, confusion regarding the provisions of the law and patient rights still lingers among both healthcare providers and consumers alike. Inspired by some of the common questions Journal of AHIMA receives from healthcare providers and consumers regarding HIPAA, the Journal spoke with an attorney who specializes in HIPAA law to address aspects of HIPAA that still inspire confusion, as well as offer guidance for health information management professionals on how to discuss the provisions of HIPAA with consumers.
The slide show adds an interactive element to the web feature article “Making HIPAA Work for You: Discussing Record Access (and More) for Consumers,” which discusses additional context and provides insight on these frequent questions posed by readers in response to articles on HIPAA. The slide show allows readers to explore potential HIPAA questions in depth, with each slide addressing a different aspect of HIPAA by answering a specific query.
