AHIMA Announces Information Governance Month Activities
February marks the beginning of AHIMA’s Information Governance (IG) Month, which is built around spreading awareness for IG in healthcare and new tools for IG adoption. IG is crucial in helping healthcare organizations meet the “Triple Aim” of quality care, population health, and lowering the per capita cost of healthcare in the United States.
IG month will see the release of a number of new products and resources to help organizations with IG programs, as well as educational events targeted to health information management professionals. AHIMA’s IG Month efforts will include the release of new infographics and a whitepaper, a new IG website on ahima.org, and other products and activities.
Jackie Palmer, MBA, an AHIMA marketing manager working on IG, is looking forward to member reactions to the new IG infographics, based on the positive response the first one received, which debuted at the 2014 AHIMA Annual Convention and Exhibit in San Diego, CA.
“The first infographic was a huge hit at convention and they are a great way to break down the complexities of information Governance. The next infographic will take the topic of ‘Why IG’ but expand on it by explaining the principles and how they pertain to the healthcare ecosystem,” Palmer says.
Interactive will deliver a webinar on February 25, called “Results and Implications of the First Survey of Information Governance Practices is Healthcare.” AHIMA will also host an IG Twitter chat on February 20 at 12:00 p.m. CT, where participants are encouraged to use the hashtag #IGNow.
“Anytime we get to talk about this initiative with our membership and the larger population I always walk away with some new knowledge or some new idea to put into action,” Palmer adds.
