JAHIMA CE Quizzes Move to Online-Only Submissions

Starting January 1, 2015, the three CE Quizzes offered in the Journal of AHIMA each issue will transition to a paperless, online-only system. At this time paper quizzes published in the magazine will no longer be accepted or processed through the mail. Instead, all quizzes must be taken online at www.ahimastore.org.

The CE Quiz questions will be published in the Journal of AHIMA at the end of the corresponding quiz article through the March 2015 issue. However, there will be no mail-in information included on the quizzes, only a link to the electronic version of the quiz at www.ahimastore.org. Starting with the April 2015 Journal of AHIMA issues the quiz questions will not be published in the magazine. Instead, a box indicating that the full quiz (including the questions) is available online will be printed at the end of select articles.

The following are some frequently asked questions regarding the change to an online-only CE Quiz system to aid Journal of AHIMA readers with this transition. However, additional questions can be directed to AHIMA’s Customer Relations by calling 1-800-335-5535.

Q: When will the CE Quizzes be offered exclusively online and not by mail?

A: Starting January 1, 2015, quizzes will only be administered online at www.ahimastore.org.

Q: Will the CE Quizzes still appear in the Journal of AHIMA?

A: The CE Quiz questions will be published in the Journal of AHIMA at the end of the corresponding quiz article through the March 2015 issue. A list of CE Quizzes will also be published in the Table of Contents.

Q: How do you purchase and take a CE Quiz online?

A: Visit the AHIMA Store at www.ahimastore.org. On the far left-hand side of the home page is a blue column titled “Products.” In that column, click on the word “Quizzes.” This area will list in chronological order all of the Journal of AHIMA and CodeWrite quizzes available for purchase. Click on the image of the quiz to read more information about the product. To purchase the quiz, click on “Add to Cart.” Then enter your AHIMA ID number or e-mail address and password. This is the same ID number and password used to access your account on www.ahima.org. If you are not an AHIMA member, you can create a new account for the store only to access your purchased quizzes. Then enter payment information on the “Shipping and Payment Information” screen. Once purchased, quizzes can be taken immediately or customers can return to the quiz to take later before the published quiz expiration date.

Q: Why change to an online only format for CE Quizzes?

A: Moving to an online only system for CE Quizzes better streamlines the quiz review process for both quiz customers and AHIMA. Online quizzes save customers the time and expense needed to physically mail in the quiz. Also, taking the quiz online allows customers to instantly see their quiz score and identify which questions they got wrong (no quiz feedback was provided with paper-mailed quizzes). Also, once an online quiz is successfully passed, the CE credit is automatically populated into the customer’s CE bank—a process that took weeks with paper quizzes.

Q: How long will individual CE Quizzes be available to take online?

A: Each quiz will be available to purchase and take up to a year after it is added to the AHIMA Store. As a courtesy to AHIMA customers, starting in 2015 the expiration date on quizzes has been pushed out from six months to a year. PLEASE NOTE: Purchased quizzes not taken by their expiration date will no longer be valid and customers will lose the ability to take the quiz. No refund will be granted for expired quizzes.

  1. I understand there is definitely good to this system being paperless and CE bank being
automatically populated. However there is NOTHING like sitting and reading AHIMA magazine and doing the quiz without always having to be connected to a computer. I don’t mind
submitting electronically but really AHIMA why can’t you at least leave the one (1) page
quiz in the magazine so that the quiz can be done manually if one chooses and then submit
answers when quiz is purchased. I know I will probably not take as many quizzes this way.
I hope this can be changed. Thanks

  2. Agree with Donna. Very inconvenient to have to log in to a computer to see the quiz,so much better to take the quiz in the magazine, then submit the answers online. Also, why is it still so expensive – $20 is a lot for one CE when employer does not reimburse. If the online quizzes save money, why do we still have to pay the same amount? What expense is involved when it is all online?

    • I received my March journal today in the mail. However, after reading the article I went to purchase the quiz but it isn’t available online. When will the quiz be available?

Additionally, if you do not pass the quiz do you have an opportunity to take it again or would you have to pay for the quiz again?

      • Hi Pam,

Thank you for your note and question. It seems we are having some technical issues with posting the quizzes. We apologize for the delay, and should have them available by the morning of March 1.

        Thank you,
