AHIMA Now Accepting Nominations for 2014 Grace Award

Grace Award imageThis week AHIMA will begin accepting nominations for its third annual Grace Award. The call for nominees for this prestigious award is timed to coincide with Health Information Professionals Week.

The award, named after AHIMA Founder Grace Whiting Myers, honors organizations with the most innovative approaches and successful uses of health information. Evaluation criteria for the award include how the organization:

  • Contributes to a patient-centered model of care
  • Advances electronic health records (EHRs)
  • Integrates HIM throughout the workplace

In addition to these and other criteria, nominated organizations should:

  • Contribute to a patient-centered model of care
  • Use an EHR
  • Be able to verify that a large percentage of HIM employees are credentialed
  • Have an HIM professional in a leadership position

For example, last year’s winner, Truman Medical Centers (TMC), won judges over with its technology program that used patient data to track, prevent, and reduce rates for falls and pressure ulcers and to decrease the length of hospital stays. Click here for a video about TMC’s program.

Nominations can be submitted for the award, via a form on AHIMA’s website, from March 16, 2014 through 11:59 p.m., on June 16, 2014. Award winners will be notified this summer, and the award will be officially presented at AHIMA’s 86th Annual Convention and Exhibit in San Diego this fall.
