An Org Chart for CDI Workflow

The July “Coding Notes” article “Establishing a CDI Program” outlines how St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA, set up its clinical documentation improvement program, moving its Core Measure staff into the role of clinical documentation specialists. St. Mary’s organizational chart is available in the online version of the article available in the AHIMA Body of Knowledge. 

The chart outlines Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ initiatives such as the process for care measures and data infrastructure and validation. It also provides timelines for ICD-10-CM/PCS implementation, CERT reviews, and RAC audits. The organization couples this information with its own initiatives and colleague titles involved with the CDI program.

Its focus is to recoup dollars based on inadequate physician documentation of medical necessity and severity of illness.
